The buzzing of bees and wild bees

Project leadership & Honey Tasting

Bee Guiding Tours in Mauergarten (Prenzlauer Berg), Prinzessinnengarten collective (Neukölln) or at Leisepark, in the disused cemetery St. Marien/St. Nikolai (Prenzlauer Berg) in Berlin.

The buzzing gets louder the closer you get to the hives… Starting with the history of bees, their development up to our current situation, which is marked by insect mortality. The distribution of roles in the hive, who actually rules the hive, and how they come to swarm. We will use our senses to immerse ourselves in the world of bees.

We will observe them at the flight hole and in the meadows and take a look inside the hive where the bees have brought in the nectar of the summer flowers in spring and summer – and we will taste the honey while it is still warm! And if you dare, you can have the honey licked off your finger by the bees at the flight hole.

Then we’ll look out for the wild bees. We observe the bumblebees, sand bees and also the wasps. Where they live, in the ground, in nesting tubes and in a built nesting block that you can open to see the current state of the brood.

At the end we will explore our relationship with them and discuss courses of action on how we can protect our important little creatures. There is a flyer with a 10 point plan – save bees – all other insects and the world at the same time. This can be used in everyday life to put the love for insects and nature into practice.

A bee tour can also be combined with a workshop. Here is a selection of what can be done with beeswax and how to build a wild bee house: bees and wild bees workshops

As a preview, here’s a video from the Peace of Land, as Silke visits the freshly moved-in swarm of bees in the box to see if the queen is there and laying eggs… Instagram Video
